Powder
The shorter and more vague a word is, the more direct its physical meaning becomes. Powder’s DJ sets and music consistently hold this feeling, even though her sets are often long. Powder plays all forms of dance music in her sets, but it is fundamentally simple: gently arranged rhythms evolve alongside morphing scenery, and unexpected sounds appear and disappear like the wind. By emphasizing certain elements while diluting others, a subtle yet solid groove emerges. The buildup is hidden, and this guided comfort allows dancers to focus on every sound in the space, from a faint whisper to the crunch of a cracker, and before you notice, big, uncontrollable moments carry you to the right place. Hydration and stretching will allow you to enjoy this journey longer and deeper.
At the end of 2025, her live mix in Berlin from ten years ago, “Powder at Cocktail d’Amore December 2016,” was chosen as one of RA’s best mixes of the last quarter-century. While her craft has deepened over the years, the essence of what she delivers has always been present, guiding you gently in all directions with musical tension and release.
The same can be said of her production. From her 2015 debut EP Spray on Born Free Records, which became a statement in place of words, you can hear her consistent sound practices through numerous releases since, along with Thinner Groove (TG), her label, party, and musical output launched in 2019 to introduce her friends’ grooves.
Powder’s DJing can be experienced occasionally across the world. Just as you might notice a seasonal breeze if you pay attention, you can find her in the present, despite her minimal online presence. When the season is right, go out and find Powder DJing, and hope you catch the groove.
