Matas

Matas is a New York City-based DJ who, over the past decade, has worked in many different avenues of dance music – record shops, DIY parties, festivals, clubs, and sound crews, developing a taste inseparable from how records land on a dancefloor. As both a DJ and a sound technician, he treats the system as part of the performance, attentive to balance, pressure, pacing, and keeping the floor held rather than merely impressed.

Rooted in local community and long-term scene building, Matas’s residency at Nowadays reflects a commitment to continuity and to developing a shared language with the room over time. His sets are long-form and psychedelic, threading playfulness through weight without losing coherence. A technician’s ear, a digger’s range, and music selected for impact.
